DVD review: Basic Slaughter (2007)
Rotary, Pennsylvania was a nice place to live.. until yesterday. A killer appeared without warning. He is on a murder spree, killing anyone he can. Anybody exposed will die. Basic Slaughter is written, edited and directed by Steve Rudzinsky. The acting is an atrocity, it´s badly shot and edited. The soundtrack might appeal to heavy metal fans but it´s total wrong for this kind o movie. There is NO atmosphere and no suspense. The whole flick consists of introducing characters, let them be on screen for a few minutes and then kill them off. The dialogue tries to be witty and tounge in cheek in the style of Wes Craven´s Scream series but fails due to the bad actors/actresses. There is gore, it´s cheap practical fx and it doesn´t look good and several of the kills occur off screen. There is some T & A in the beginning of the flick.
This review is based upon the All Regions DVD release from Createspace and is manufactured on demand when ordered from Amazon.com.
Rating: 0½ out of 7. I have to give them credit, they didn´t lie on the DVD cover, there´s no icon, no novelty, no twist... I´d like to add the following remarks; no coherent plot, abysmal acting and crappy make-up fx... Basic Slaughter feel very much like a hobby project made by a bunch of friends, sadly they are severly lacking in the skills of filmmaking...

Review: The Dead Inside (2005)
First I´d like to thank Brian Clement for providing me with a screener of his film.
In 1948, two detectives who specialize in the paranormal assemble a team of investigators to look into the unexplained occurrences at a large Victoria, British Columbia home built 60 years earlier. In it, the team experiences hallucinations and visions of their own inner fears, and the ghostly forms of the past inhabitants. They discover the top secret work of an Allied scientist from World War II who had vanished in the house months earlier, has contributed to the dimensional rift that begins to consume them one by one... The Dead Inside is written and directed by Brian Clement. The acting is pretty good, the cinematography is good and there are some really nice and moody scenes in this. It also contains few scenes that takes place during World War 2 and these look very good especially considering the obvious limitations of budget. The soundtrack is excellent. It´s obvious that the sets, props and so on have been chosen with great care and it looks very good. This is not a gorefeast but there is some gore, it´s very nice looking practical make-up fx and it mainly appears during the scenes taking place during World War 2. No T & A in this.
This review is based upon a DVD-screener provided by the director.
Rating: 6 out of 7. The Dead Inside is an impressive effort and very different from the other Brian Clement movies I´ve previously reviewed, it shows signs of huge improvement in writing and craftmanship. I love the plot, the influences from H.P Lovecraft, the setting and the props.

DVD review: Necro Files 2 (Video 2003)
The two detectives Sloane (Gary Browning) and Manners (Steve Sheppard) balance are hunting another brutal serial rapist and killer who indulges in cannibalism, little do they know that the man responsible is the brother of the maniac (turned zombie) in the first movie and unwittingly he reanimates his evil brother's corpse as a flesh-eating zombie rapist! Together, the pair go on a berserk killing and raping spree. The Necro Files 2 is written by Todd Tjersland and is directed by Ron Carlo but Todd Tjersland, Matt Jaissle and Greg Lewis have also gotten credit for being co-directors.. Yup, four directors and that´s usually not a good sign of what´s to come. The acting is hilariously bad which shouldn´t come as a surprise as several of the cast from part 1 are also in this. The camerawork and editing is poor. As earlier there is no suspense and the entertainment value is pretty low... It lasts only 60 minutes, but I felt the time was significantly longer than that. The Necro Files 2 feels more like a remake than a sequel. It´s gorier, I mean bloodier as it´s blood that we see and no cuts, than the first movie but the make-up fx is pretty cheap-looking and weaker than the original, the highlight is a prolonged scene of cannibalism in the beginning of the movie. The killings are too amateurishly staged to have any impact on the viewer. I do like the make-up fx design for the decaying zombie serial rapist. There is plenty of T & A including several scenes of full frontal nudity and it´s more explicit than the first movie as vaginas are viewed in close up. Actually it´s pretty close to the threshold of the hardcore and I think most of the female cast members are porn actresses. There is male nudity in the form of penises but these are, however, quite obviously rubber imitations. There are several sexual situations and scenes of rape and that nasty/sleazy mix of sex and violence which are sure to provoke the plotically correct and the squemish but I ain´t neither and I just found it to be rather boring. And yes, the zombie serial rapist keeps running around with his cock hanging outside his pants and he´s still hung like a horse.
This review is based upon German region 2 DVD release from Rape Entertainment and is part of a 2 Disc Box-Set. It has english audio and german subtitles.
Rating: 0½ out of 7. I came to think of the german director Andreas Bethmann and his Vegetarierinnen series while watching it and I think the next logical step if there is ever a part 3 in The Necro Files saga is it to be pure hardcore porn. The Necro Files 2 is an amateur production at the lowest level, it´s just plain boring, it relies only on its rape scenes, naked breasts and pussies in an attempt to entertain and shock the viewer and it fails miserably.
