Review: I´m Dead (2011)
First I´d like to thank Francesco Picone for contacting me and suggesting I´d should take a look at his short film. A couple of friends in a nature hike, what was to be a quiet day of relaxation, you will soon become a nightmare without end ... I´m Dead is written and directed by Francesco Picone and it´s a short film from Italy. The cast is good, all actors give good performances. It professionally shot and edited and looks really good, the cinematography combined with a the soundtrack creates a nice and creepy atmosphere. There are some well made practical gore make-up fx as things turns nasty but there is a scene where I wonder if it shouldn´t have been gorier if someone.... hey wait, you´ll have to wait and see for yourself as I don´t wanna spoil the fun for you. No T and A in this one.
This review is based upon a online source provided by the director, the film can be viewed online here, english subtitles are available.
Rating: 6½ out of 7. I´m Dead is a nice looking short film, pretty creepy atmosphere and good acting makes this a winner. Check it out, I suggest you do it asap as you never now when the youtube censors strike...

Review: Velvet Vengeance (2012)
First I´d like to thanks the filmmakers behind Velvet Vengeance for providing me with a screener.
A young woman is faced with the tragic murder of her brother. The police swear that the murderer is dead but Alice can not shake the feeling that the killer is still alive. Against her friends and family’s best wishes she travels to the location of her brothers murder to hunt the killer but little does she know that she is the one that is being hunted. Velvet Vengeance is written and directed by Jeremy Campbell. We get some frightfully bad acting, bad camerawork and editing. It looks like a incredibly cheap production. Even though it has a running time of 26 minutes (including credits) it feels overlong as it quickly turns into daytime tv territory. There is a fightscene between two girls and the choreography is so bad and it´s so badly shot and edited that´s it´s a small catastrophy. There is no gore, no make-up fx (practical or digital). there is a scene where a character gets disembowelled but it´s shot from behind, you see nothing except something that is supposed to be blood and guts falling to the ground. No T & A in this one..
This review is based upon a online screener provided by the makers of Velvet Vengeance.
Rating: 0 out of 7. OMG this is really bad! It´s so badly made and boring. I do like the idea of a next of kin looking for revenge crossed with the slasher genre but this is more daytime tv/soap opera than action/horror.

DVD review: Girl Number Three (2009)
First I´d like to thank Herschel Zahnd III for sending me a DVD of his film.
Max Carpenter (Julia Streble) was on her way to her sorority´s annual Halloween costume party when she is abducted by a gang of masked men and taken to an old textile factory in a secluded part of town. Cold, bloody and beaten, Max unwillingly becomes part of a sadistic night of terror that will take her to the edge of madness and brutally push her over. Girl Number Three is written by Nathan Thomas Milliner (it´s based on a graphic novel by him) and Herschel Zahnd III who shot, edited and directed the film which is made on a shoestring budget. Considering the very limited budget the film looks good due to it being nicely shot and edited. The acting is for the most part pretty good and especially Julia Streble is quite nice in her part as the girl who is pushed to far... The film manages to give us a few twists along the way which is nice and adds to the entertainment value. The soundtrack is nice. There is violence and gore, it´s pretty standard indie practical gore make-up fx which looks decent thanks to the way it´s shot and edited and possibly also due to the film being in black and white. There is no T & A in it, actually they work around it quite nicely.
This review is based upon a DVD screener provided to me by the director.
Rating: 6 out of 7. I liked it, I did get a kick out of it. I look forward to see more from Herschel Zahnd III.
