DVD review: I Drink Your Blood (1970)
A band of Satanist hippies lead by Horace Bones roll into a town and begin terrorizing the local folk, raping a local girl whos grandpa goes after them. He fails and is given LSD. This bothers his grandson and he gets back at the hippies by feeding them meat ... pies infected with blood from a rabid dog. They turn into crazed lunatics and begin killing and/or infecting everything in their path. I Drink Your Blood is written and directed by David E. Durston. The acting is uneven, there is plenty of unintentional comedy due to it but most of the cast do a adequate job. The camerawork and editing is pretty good. The pace is quite good, it has a running time of 83 minutes, and there ain´t a dull moment in it. There are a few incoherent plot twists and soon we have infected running around wide-eyed and foaming-at-the-mouth (it looks like shaving cream) wielding axes and machetes while thirsty for blood. There is plenty of violence, it´s graphic and gory, the make-up fx is pretty primitive and but charming. I´ll have be honest and admit that I was kinda expecting more gore and unpleasantness It has a nice sleazy atmosphere. There are some animal killings that seem real which are sure to offend some viewers. There is some T & A in this, there is a off screen rape in the beginning (nothing is shown). The gorgeous Lynn Lowry provides some brief nudity as Carrie (although she is uncredited).
This review is based upon the region all (Region 0) DVD release from Grindhouse Releasing.
Rating: 5½ out of 7. I enjoyed this. The plot, while simple, is quite original and very cool. It´s very entertaining and has a wonderful 1970's horror and 70s drive-in flick atmosphere! The title, I Drink Your Blood is just awesome! Recommended!!
