DVD review: Spring Break Massacre (Video 2008)

Six beautiful sorority co-eds have thrown a slumber party. However, their evening´s festivities were brutally interrupted after Stanley Peterson, a convicted killer, escaped from prison. Now, after the events have transpired, Sheriff Jacob Yates (Reggie Bannister) must reveal the mystery of the Spring Break Massacre. Spring Break Massacre is written and directed by Michael Hoffman Jr. (as Rex Kramer). It has a non-linear structure  switching between past and present. The running time is only 74 minutes so you know that the pace is gonna be pretty high and it certainly desn´t waste any time to get going. The acting is pretty bad but Reggie Bannister is good as always and I did like the the creepy neighbor. The camerawork and editing is pretty good. There is no real tension and it feels like it´s a tongue-in-cheek production in some parts but I don´t mind. Spring Break Massacre could have been much gorier, it features several off screen kills and we often only get to see the aftermath. it´s practical make-up fx which for the most part looks pretty good. There is plenty of eyecandy as the girls are nice to look at and there is gratuitous topless nudity from almost all the female members of the cast.
This review is based upon the region 1 DVD release from Synkronized USA.

Rating: 3½ out of 7. It isn´t bad, it kept me interested, but yet it´s something of a disappointment due to the lack of gore, there just isn´t enough gore to satisfy the gorehound in me...  If you´re a slasher fan I suggest you check it out but don't have too high expectations.
