DVD review: Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988)

Private detective (Jay Richardson) is trying to find a pretty young girl named Samantha (Linnea Quigley) and stumbles across a chainsaw-worshipping cult led by a mysterious figure (Gunnar Hansen). Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers is written by T.L. Lankford and Fred Olen Ray who also is the director. The acting isn´t very good but it´s all very tounge in cheek. I liked Jay Richardson as the sleazy private eye. Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers looks incredibly cheap and it isn´t a surprise to realise that it was shot on a very low budget. It struck me that this is a incredibly talky horror comedy, the pacing is fairly decent and we´re never too far away from T & A or a kill. There isn´t much horror or atmosphere to speak of but what it does have is comedy and there a quite a few funny moments that made me chuckle. There is very little on screen gore and the fx are amateurish, the kills are very silly with very fake looking body parts being thrown around along with buckets of fake looking blood. There's plenty of T & A in this from Linnea Quigley, Esther Elise and Michelle Bauer who also provides full frontal nudity.
This review is based upon the Region 1 DVD release from Retromedia Entertainment.
Rating: 4 out of 7. It´s quite bad but also irresistibly charming, effectively tongue-in-cheek and  entertaining. Check it out.
