DVD review: Bio Slime (Video 2010)
Trapped in a room with one door and no windows, where cell phones do not work and no one outside can hear their calls for help, a group of seven people is under siege as a shape-shifting creature tries to enter! Bio Slime is written and directed by John Lechago. The acting is pretty good, the camerawork and editing is good. The setting, a limited location (an apartment building), is pretty good. In some of the scenes the filmmakers have been very successful in creating claustrophobic atmosphere. The soundtrack is good. The major highlight of Bio Slime is the creature/monster which has many forms. Though heavy on fx Bio Slime isn´t especially gory, there is only brief gore in this flick as the creature absorbs/consums its victims. Most of the carnage is actually inflicted on the creature as it takes/imitates human form (sadly most of these high lights are shown in the trailer which is heavy on spoilers so beware!), The fx are both practical and computer rendered. The creature fx design, it appears in different forms (from simple slime to grotesque creatures), ranges from pretty ok to really impressive. Some of the fx looks awesome and I guess the filmmakers spent most of the budget on special effects. There is gratuitous T & A, including female full frontal nudity, and a prolonged sex-scene.
Bio Slime is also known as Contagion.
This review is based on the region 1 DVD release from Media Blasters.
Rating: 5 out of 7. I enjoyed this, it´s a a decent flick. Granted the plot is pretty basic but we get plenty of T & A and impressive special effects but I wish that the kills/absorbation would have been messier (in effect gorier). Recommended to fans of creature features such as The Blob (1988)...
