DVD review: Class of Nuke 'Em High (1986)
At Tromaville High School, located a stone’s throw from the local Nuclear Power Plant, the students are getting brighter. In fact, they’re beginning to develop a Troma-green glow. Innocent students mutate into sex-crazed psychos, the Honor Society’s turned into carnivorous, kinky cretins, and the slimy monster stalking the hallways isn’t the principal! Class of Nuke 'Em High is written by Mark Rudnitsky, Stuart Strutin, Graham Flashner, Lloyd Kaufman and Richard W. Haines. It is directed by Lloyd Kaufman and Richard W. Haines. The acting is okay, there´s some familiar faces from The Toxic Avenger, another Troma flick. The camerawork and editing is good. The soundtrack is good. Pacing is good, Class of Nuke 'Em High is a nice mix of comedy, horror and sci fi. This being a Troma production you can expect hilarous comedy, over the top stuff, some of the scenes are very funny and as usual Troma dares to go where mainstream won´t, beating down elderly ladies and so on. The effects are nice in this, we get good gore, some really nice creature effects towards the end of the flick and much more. There´s T and A in this. Hey it´s Troma what did you expect? But honestly this isn´t as gratuitous as you might think.
This review is based upon the region all (region 0) DVD release from Troma Entertainment, it´s labeled as a director´s cut.
Rating: 7 out of 7. You get what you expect from a Troma flick, nudity, gore, bad acting and comedy. Troma Entertainment is one of my favorite companies, it wasn´t a few years ago but I grown to like the company more and more. Class of Nuke 'Em High is regarded by many as a cult classic and it is well-deserved. It´s a immensely entertaining flick! Highly recommended!
