DVD review: Succubus: The Demon (Video 2006)

Henri (Markus Salo) and Laura (Veera Toivanen) are a married couple whose happiness is short-lived as Laura dies of fatal disease. Henri breaks down, get debressed and lose his grip on life. The memory of Laura still haunting him, he starts seeking ways to communicate with his dead wife. Succubus: The Demon is written by Jari Mustonen and Sami Haavisto who also is the director. The acting is good, especially from Markus Salo. The camerawork and editing is very good. The soundtrack is great! The music and camerawork work great together and helps to create a nice atmosphere. There´s a couple of really good and creepy moments in this and there is also some bad ass moments with a certain demon but I don´t want to reveal too much but I loved those scenes. I also love the bleak, dark mood that rests over the flick (something that all Sami Haavisto flicks have in common). The pace is nice, it never gets dull instead we have a build up, we follow Henri´s plight, his doubts of his sanity and later his attempts to come in contact with his dead wife. All this and we get a twist..  There´s brief gore in this, it isn´t a gorefeast but there is some violent scenes. There is some use of digital fx and it looks good. I loved the design of the demon (again, no details due to spoilers). There is gratuitous T & A and a couple of sex-scenes in this

Rating: 7 out of 7. I loved this! Succubus: The Demon doesn´t focus on the gore, instead we get suspense and horror. I love the very bleak nature of the flick, the use of occultism and the gratuitous nudity. Make sure to check this one out if you´re into the occultism genre! Highly recommended!
