DVD review: Mold! (2009)
First I´d like to thank Neil Meschino for sending me a copy of his film.
Set in 1984, when the war on drugs was at its height, the story concerns a strain of mold developed by the government to wipe out Colombian coca fields. Unfortunately, during a demonstration, the mold gets out of control and proves to be deadly to more than just vegetation. Mold! is written by Dave Fogersson and Neil Meschino who also directs. The script doesn´t take itself too seriously and the there is a lot of tongue in cheek satire, I definitely laughed out loud more than once. The film is very professionally shot and edited, the soundtrack is excellent. The film has a fantastic ensemble, witty dialogue and fast pacing. And a lot of splatter, there are gore and even more green slime. The special fx are old school, it doesn´t looks particularly convincing but the fx are gruesome and fits the film perfectly. Good acting but special praise goes to Edward X. Young as the Colonel and Rick Haymes who plays Dr. Matthew Kane.
This review is based on a DVD sent to me, it´s unrated.
Mold! is available through the official movie site
Rating: 6½ out of 7. I enjoyed Mold! it´s a very funny, amusing and entertaining ride. I strongly recommend you check it out!
