Review: Breaking Val (Video 2007)
In a battle of abuse, can Valerie's (Lindy Star Taylor) mind games conquer Tom's (Buddy Hyde) vicious physical torture? Valerie and Tom who have been married for four years. They seem to be a happy blue collar couple to the outside world. The reality, however, is very different. Tom's abuse escalates when Tom finds out that his wife has been taking comfort in another man, David. His focus intensifies as he attempts to break Val. With no way to fight back, can Valerie survive the Tom's physical brutality with her mind games? Breaking Val is written by Jason Fragale and directed by him and Michael Long. It´s a violent and gory short film (running time 15 minutes), the special fx are good but this film isn´t about gore, the atmosphere is tense and unsettling. It´s competently shot and edited, the acting is good, especially Lindy Star Taylor gives a good performance. The pacing is good and the unsettling terror never lets go.
