DVD review: Blood Runs Cold (2011)

Winona (Hanna Oldenburg), a successful artist looking to get away from her stressful life. Her manager rents her a house in her home town where she runs in to an old boyfriend Richard (Patrick Saxe) and his friends, Carl (Andreas Rylander) and Liz (Elin Hugoson).. They go back to the house, only to find out it is not as empty as they assumed. Blood Runs Cold is a independently produced swedish slasher flick written by Tommy Wiklund, David Liljeblad and Sonny Laguna who also is the director. The film looks good, it´s professionally shot and edited, The setting is excellent and the soundtrack is very good and helps to create a eerie atmosphere. The acting is decent, to reach a international audience the film is recorded in English, although shot in Sweden the film is set in the United States. The film takes its time to get started, around the the 30 minute mark the film gets going... The killer is bloodthirsty, brutal and looks menacing, in my opinion he is reminicent of the killer in Roar Uthaug's Cold Prey (Fritt Vilt, 2006). There is gore and nudity on display, which are two pillars of a good slasher in my opinion. The gorehounds are likely to be pleased, highlights are a torn in half body, cannibalism and a great beheading. It´s a combination of practical fx and some CGI gore. The make-up crew did a excellent job!!
This review is based on the region 2 DVD release from Chelsea Films.
Rating: 5½ out of 7. I enjoyed Blood Runs Cold, if you are a slasher fan or a gorehound you need to do yourself a favor and check this movie out. Sonny Laguna has talent and I definitely like to see what he comes up next.
