DVD review: Outtake Reel (2011)

First I´d like to thank Scott Feinblatt for sending me a DVD.
Behind the scenes filmmaker Danny Wilson  (Jeffrey Chaffin) ratches up the tension on the set of Thomas Grayson´s (Scott Feinblatt)  new horror film which sends the director on a deranged journey into madness. Outtake Reel is written, produced and directed by Scott Feinblatt and co-directed and edited by Jeffrey Chaffin. The film features guest appearances by Tiffany Shepis and Lloyd Kaufman and I´ll have admitt that it feels a bit strange too see Lloyd Kaufman playing a role without spoofing it but he does it really well and is great. The acting is pretty good, special praise to Ava Santana who plays the character Ashley Swan, she is is both beautiful and very talented. The camera work is mostly shaky cam (filmed point of view) and the editing reflects that. It isn´t supposed to be perfect and it just adds to the sense of realism. There is no gratuitous nudity or gore, the violence appear off screen and is implied.
This review is based upon the region all DVD released by Dervish Pictures, it´s available from

Rating: 5½ out of 7. Outtake Reel feels original as it´s focuses on plot and characters instead of gore and violence, it´s quite enjoyable and there are several twists and turns along the way. I think you should definitely give this one a try.
