DVD review: Redneck Zombies (1989)

When a clan of hillybilly dirt farmers turn a misplaced barrel  of chemical waste into a whiskey still, going blind is the least of their worries as the moonshine turns them into Redneck Zombies! Now they´re ready to invite a group of wayward yankees to a down-home feast of southern-fried gore and mayhem that will turn your stomach and tickle your funny bone! Redneck Zombies is written and directed by Zoofeet, P. Floyd Piranha, Fester Smellman and is directed by Pericles Lewnes. The acting in Redneck Zombies is bad, really really f*cking bad and I know that it isn´t meant to be good but it´s atrociously bad and goes beyond so bad that its good. There is plenty of comedy in this movie, most of it is politically incorrect but pretty lame humor. The camerawork and editing is for the most part decent. The soundtrack is bad. Zero atmosphere, zero dread or horror but it is not meant to be scary as this is first and foremost a gory comedy. There are two overlong and very boring drugtrip scenes that made me to start comtemplate if I should jump forward to the next chapter on the DVD.
It´s gory, lots of graphic carnage in this and it´s all practical make-up fx. The quality of the fx ranges from good, decent to cheesy. No T & A in this.
This review is based upon the region 1 DVD release from Troma.
Rating: 1½ out of 7. Redneck Zombies is cheap and poorly made, the plot and the acting is among the dumbest I've experienced but there are some funny parts in this. A must for any Troma fan!
