DVD review: The Trek (2008)

When Keith (Brett Hundley) and Kim Russell (Erin Fleming) head into the mountains on an adventure packed honeymoon, they find much more action than they were expecting. when the newlyweds stumble upon a pair of cave dwelling savages, their romantic getaway quickly becomes a tragic nightmare as each couple tests the limits of how far they are willing to go in order to protect the ones that they love. The Trek is written by Tom Devlin and Lola Wallace who also is the director. The pacing is a bit slow, this flick is a slow burner but that´s good as we get to know and care for the characters and don´t worry it does get nasty, very nasty and graphic. The acting is pretty good, it´s professionally shot and edited. I like the soundtrack. It´s violent and gory, it´s practical make-up fx and for the most part it looks really good. The make-up fx design for the cave dwelling savages is good in particular for the male. There are some notable bad fight choreography during the first confrontation between the couples. There is no T & A. This review is based upon the All region DVD release from Plan 10 Pictures.
Rating: 6½ out of 7. I didn´t know anything about this flick before but this was a really nice surprise. The Trek seems like a standard backwoods-terror flick but offers more than expected, it´s a really nice addition to the genre. Some scenes definitely has shock value and I love that its no holds barred. This film isn't for the faint of heart. Recommended!
