DVD review: Zombie Apocalypse (Video 2010)
When college roommates Mark (Michael Empson) and Tom (Michael Harthen) go out for a night at the bar, the last thing they expected to find was a machete wielding stranger (Kenny James) and a horde of the undead. With the help of amateur photographer and video store clerk Raven (Kelly Knoll), the unlikely party fights their way into ... an epic conflict between the living and the dead. Zombie Apocalypse is written by Adam Goron, Kenny James and Ryan Thompson who also is the director. The camerawork and editing is decent. Some very poor acting on display and I get the impression that several of the castmembers is way to young for the characters they are supposed to portray. And the machete wielding stranger who keeps trying too speak with a voice similar to Snake Plissken in Escape from New York but he just comes across as fake and silly. The pacing is actually pretty decent but Zombie Apocalypse is just plain boring due to it´s failure to excite and keep me entertained as a viewer, honestly I began losing interest at the fifteen minute mark and after that it was an ordeal to sit through the rest. There is a total lack of tension or atmosphere. The soundtrack feels inappropriate and is pretty bad... There is some gore and it´s a mix of bad practical make-up fx and bad computer gendered fx but most of the graphic violence actually occur off screen. The zombies aren´t remotely frightening, most of the make-up fx design is very basic. No T & A in this
This review is based upon the region 1 DVD release from Eagle One Media, it´s unrated.
Rating: 0½ out of 7. What might have saved this film would have been if the filmmakers had tried to compensate for the boring plot, the bad acting with tons and tons of blood and gore. This is one of the worst zombie movies I ´v seen. Do not waste your time or money on this!
