Review: Of Silence (2012)

First I´d like to thank Jeremiah Sayys for contacting me and asking if I´d me be interested in reviewing his new feature length film. After returning home, a former scuba diver tries to cope with his wife's untimely death, while experiencing otherworldly incidents. Of Silence is written and directed by Jeremiah Sayys who also plays the main character. It´s equal parts drama, horror and sci fi.If you´re looking for a fast paced, gory horror flick this ain´t it. It´s a slow burner, it takes it´s time. The acting is good, it´s nicely shot and edited. The soundtrack is stunningly beautiful, the sound itself is well worth mentioning as this is a film that utilises sound effects with great success, it sets the mood and helps creates a creepy atmosphere and some the scary scenes are very effective. There is no real gore but there are some practical make-up fx for wounds but it´s nothing special. The creature make-up fx design is really cool even though the creatures for the most part remain in the dark. There are no T & A in this.
This review is based upon a online screener provided by Jeremiah Sayys, sadly I hade some difficulties when viewing it, the picture did freeze several times which undoubtedly spoiled the experience somewhat for me.
Rating: 6 out of 7. The frequent freezing of the picture sadly has a pretty big impact on the viewing experience for me but even so this is a good, well thought out flick with good imagery and sound. I´m very interested to see more from Jeremiah Sayys in the future.
