DVD review: Cannibal Campout (Video 1988)

When Amy and her college friends arrive for a fun-filled weekend of camping in the wilderness, they quickly learn the horrors of being on the wrong end of the food chain. Only brutal murder, torture and mutilation await as one by one they are stalked and terrorized by a brood of bloodthirsty mountain dwellers, who will stop at nothing to appease their hunger for sliced, diced, and barbecued camper. Cannibal Campout is written by John Rayl and directed by Tom Fisher and Jon McBride. The acting atrocious and there is quite a bit of unintentional comedy due to this. The camerawork and editing is decent. The electronic soundtrack is pretty good and pretty effective. It´s gory and the carnage is shown mostly in full view, it´s all practical make-up fx. Some of it looks pretty good especially when one considers what these guys probably had to work with, and I guess that the embryo eating scene might be considered as the highligt of carnage on screen. In the T & A department there is some nudity..
This review is based upon the region 1 DVD release from Camp Motion Pictures which is Unrated.
Rating: 2½ out of 7. It didn't disappoint, I´m a avid lover of backwoods gore pictures and I don´t care that the plot is unoriginal or that the acting is hilarious, the best part of this movie is the gore and the brutality displayed by the bloodthirsty mountain dwellers.
