DVD review: Charlie's Death Wish (Video 2005)
After her sister is murdered in jail by a gang of drug dealers, Charlie Durham (Phoebe Dollar) begings to rub out the gang bangers and the cops that butchered her sister. a sympathetic police officer (Ron Jeremy) turns a blind eye to her rampage. When the entire city of Hollywood explodes literally, even he cannot protect Charlie from an army of assassins ready for payback. Charlie´s Death Wish is written by Phoebe Dollar and Jeff Leroy who also is producer, editor and director. You might recognize his name, Jeff Leroy the man who gave us Werewolf In Womens Prison (2006) and the fantastic Rat Scratch Fever (2011). The acting is barely ok, I was a bit surprised that Ron Jeremy can do straight roles besides appearing in porn, he really has acting talents. Phoebe Dollar is both cool and hotlooking as the female vigilante. The camera work and editing is decent, the budget is very low. The pacing is good. The action, and there is a lot of it, is pretty good and violent as hell as our heroine shoots, knifes and blows away the lowlifes. There is quite a bit of intentional comedy spliced in between the actionscenes, it´s tongue-in-cheek. It´s gory, there are lots of big juicy squibs when people get shot, heads explode and so on. It´s all practical make-up fx. And I love that they use miniature models in some scenes when things are being blown up, very very cool! There is no T & A in this.
This review is based upon the region 1 DVD release from Vital Fluids Release and it´s Not rated.
Rating: 6 out of 7. Charlie's Death Wish is a very violent and gory vigilante flick. Very enjoyable and very entertaining. It's worth checking out
